Arrival - Bangkok, Thailand. It was a relatively quite airport at the time we arrived, so Princess decided to go for a quick shopping. Apparently Kaufang wanted her to buy perfume. I seriously doubt it, because she always likes to buy perfume. We shop for a while and catch a cab down town. Upon reaching the Kaufang's apartment, I was greeted with the traditional way, Sawadee-kap for me and Sawadee-ka for her. We went on to "check-in" and et ourselves a short rest, before we head to Central Plaza for a quick bite. MK restaurant, you have to try the duck with the green noodle. Too bad I can't show you any picture; apparently they don't allow you to take photo inside.
Later that night I was taken to a restaurant for the food I was craving about. (Insects and "weird" food). Frankly I never thought they will really bring me there to eat such a thing, nor I was told I will be eating that stuff. Nice ambient restaurant and look decent, then Princess and the sister start to order or food in Thai, which again I don't know what they are ordering. Duck's beak, Ant's Egg, Raw crabs and dam spicy food, gosh I am starting to worry about the rest of the days for this trip.
After a "nice" dinner I was taken to the King of Thailand's house. At first glance it does look like White House in Washington DC. Only different Washington DC doesn't have a statue of the king riding a horse in front of it. The statue is actually the 5th King of Thailand and local believe praying to "him" will bring good business. Off course I join in.
Shopping, happiest day for Princess, why? Because it's shopping day. Now no offence, if you think Bukit Bintang or Orchard Street (Singapore) is great for shopping, think again cause Siam Paragon has virtually all the name you heard and proly those you never heard. Now everywhere I turn it spells BRANDED and LUXURY.
If I have not mentioned, Thai Chinese is very devoted to their God, so don't be surprise when you saw a "temple" in the middle of the shopping area. Apparently the one I saw is believe to be able to bring good luck in business, and it even attract some Hong Kong star and businessman to pray here.
BANGKOK, Thailand July 2007
SIAM Paragon Plaza - EVERYTHING Spell LUXURY and BRANDED.
If two hour of driving was not bad enough, the rain chip in its share. We have to wait for about 30 minutes before we can get on a sampan to tour around the floating market. Again, it seems we came at the wrong time, it will be merrier if we were to drop by at the evening hour, but I have no qualm about it, I bet there will be lots of mosquito when the evening falls. We have a fair share of touring and trying on some food and drinks. It was seriously a nice experience. By the way there are many floating market, so be sure to ask around before you decide which one you want to visit.
Next stop was the Siam Culture Center. Now upon entering the premise, it might look nothing but matter of fact it's quit something to see. The fee for entrance is divided into two category, Thai and NON Thai. Foreigner is charged RM 20.00 and for local it's free. So it depend if you can get yourself look like local.
Literally this place is filled with waxwork people, it's some kinda Madame Tussaud of Thailand. One thing about this place is that it's somehow kinda "properly arranged" trips for you. First you get to see some waxwork then you see a coffee house followed by restroom. After the rest room you get to see more waxworks then coffee house then the toilet again. Nice!
Wat Arun - The other name for this temple is Temple of Dawn. If you want the history of this temple, may I suggest you Google it. It's a very interesting temple. Most of the statue is very old but still it somehow give you a feeling they are watching you. This temple also overlooks the river.
The vantage point of this temple is if you climb up the stairs. Mind you these steps are not for the weak hearted. The angel is at appx. 70 degree. Going up should be a problem, but upon descending, that's the scary part. Safety first is always the better option.
There is another temple called Golden Mount. However due to time constrain I was unable to visit it. It's located near the King's House. Well if you do have some extra time, you can always have a look. By the way, temple that pose as tourist attraction, mostly closed by 4pm although it's stated 3.30pm. Please don't take me responsible if it's close at 3.30pm.
