However, cometh the hour, cometh the man and Torres stepped up to coolly slot Liverpool into the lead, barely 10 minutes after being introduced from the bench.
Gerrard then sealed the win as he tucked away a penalty after Peter Crouch was tripped on the edge of the area by Carlos Bocanegra.
